Like to chat on WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook?
Then take advantage of this amazing offer from Virgin with SIM only deals starting from just £6 p/mth. No other major network offers free messaging on your favourite social platforms that doesn't use up data from your allowance. We also expect there to be new messaging partners being added in the future.
Great Value SIM Deals
Virgin Mobile’s SIM Only deals are still some of the cheapest around. Their basic £6 p/mth contract includes 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 300MB of data – perfect if you use your mobile for quick calls and prefer messaging.
Virgin Mobile Nano SIM for iPhone 5, 6 and 7
If you're buying online, Virgin now allow you to purchase a Nano SIM only. It's been a long time coming but iPhone users can now take advantage of Virgin's great value tariffs.
Nano SIMs are also what the iPhone 6 and 7 uses so you'll have no problem with compatibility there either.
The great new offers from Virgin provide you with rollover data so that you can carry any data you haven't used over to the next month. Any unused rollover data does expire at the end of the next billing month and it is always used first ahead of your regular allowance.
Virgin uses the Everything Everywhere, which is reliable and fast. To check your coverage visit Virgin Media's coverage checker.
The most data you can get from a Virgin SIM is now 20GB for £25. Although not as good as previous tariffs they've had in the past, this is still a great offer when you compare with similar plans on EE and Vodafone.
Virgin do have an acceptable and fair usage policy in place to prevent abuse of their mobile network against things like peer to peer file sharing. For customers joining after June 25th 2012 there is an excessive limit policy of 3.5GB per month, at which point your data connection will be throttled down to 3G speeds of 384kbit/s. After the calendar month has ended then your speed will return to normal.
With regards to tethering, or sharing your mobile Internet connection with other devices, Virgin Media do not allow this and this is explicitly mentioned in their terms of service. In reality, most of you won't be restricted by the fair usage policy or the rule on no tethering. If you do require tethering then we recommend going for a plan on Three or a high-end tariff on O2 who also include it within their data allowances. You can read more on tethering here.
4G on Virgin Mobile
4G is now available on Virgin SIM only deals. In November 2016, Virgin launched a new range of plans with 4G as standard, piggybacking on the EE network.
SIM Only Contract’s top tip:
Our editor says:
With a Virgin SIM Only, you get the same great monthly mixes of talk time and texts as that of their contract deals, you can talk and text to any UK network in the UK anytime, and you can now use your popular social media apps to chat with out using any of your data allowance.
I like: With Virgin, you can roll over unused data to the next month for one month. All new and existing Virgin customers get one of the cheapest SIM only deals in the UK for just £6 p/mth.
I don’t like: When mobile operators describe data allowances as "unlimited" we want them to actually be unlimited, no caps and I believe they should include tethering too!
