The People’s Operator is a new and unique mobile phone provider that runs on the Three network. It launched in 2012 and recently appointed Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia founder) as their co-chair.
The reason TPO is so unique is that it is a non-profit organisation that allows you to choose a charity of you choice and then direct 10% of your spend to that charity. All this at no extra cost to you.
To add to this further, TPO also contributes 25% of it profits to the TPO foundation, an independent legal organisation with the aim to award money to the local community and other positive activities.
The People’s Operator specialises in PAYG and monthly SIM only deals
What do they offer?
At the moment the choice of plans offered by TPO is very simple and we like it that way. No nonsense and simple to understand plans with great value and very competitive pricing.
For a relatively new company, it’s surprising to see some very good deals. For £12.99 p/mth you can get 2200 minutes and unlimited texts! This also includes nearly 5GB per month. Note that you a will be charged for any usage above that cap. These are vastly improved deals compare to when TPO first launched and are market leading when compared to the big players like Three, Virgin and Vodafone.
TPO offer all types of SIM cards including the standard SIM, micro SIM and nano SIM that is suitable for the iPhone 7 and 7S (Plus).
How does this compare to the best unlimited SIM Only deals from other networks?
Comparing offers in the £10 price range you can get unlimited minutes on other networks such as Virgin or BT however, when it comes to data and texts, TPO matches them with 3GB and unlimited texts for only £8.99 a month.
Another good things about the TPO network is their relatively low charges for 08 numbers. At £0.20 per minute it’s more than 50% less than the cost of other networks. If you do make a lot of calls to these type of numbers though, you may be better off with giffgaff or a plan like Virgin’s VIP Plus
which covers them within you allowance.
TPO offer very good Internet packages for 4G data ranging from 500MB up to 8GB. For £11.49 a month you can get 4GB of data which compares well with most networks in the same price range and there are optional data add-ons should you run out.
The add-ons are currently priced as follows: 512MB for £3, 1GB of data for £5 or 2GB for £8.
Unfortunately, there is also no tethering allowed on TPO SIM plans.
TPO also do a Tablet SIM Only deal for £5.49 a month with 1GB of data. Again, there isn’t a huge amount of allowance here however, as mentioned above you can purchase a data add-on if you need to.
