Choosing your SIM Only tariff
What do they offer?
Three has some of the best SIM Only tariffs around, so it’s no wonder they rate highly on our choice of network. They are also seen as the UK’s no.1 network for Smartphone users and offer fantastic Internet packages with their SIM Only contracts! Do you use the Internet a lot or have a Smartphone?
The One Plan is head and shoulders above all others. You get an amazing 5000 texts, 2000 minutes and, above all, unlimited data usage. The One Plan is just £25 p/mth on a 30-day contract. Do you use the Internet moderately or not often?
Most Three Mobile SIM Only contracts give you 1GB of Internet, which will be more than enough for the average user. If you decide it isn’t enough, you can add unlimited Internet for only £3 extra p/mth. Feel at Home - Use data and UK allowance abroad
Feel At Home allows customers to use their UK allowances to use data, text, call home and receive calls from home when abroad in 11 destinations around the world.
As of 4th December 2013 these include:
- Hong Kong
- Republic of Ireland
- Sri Lanka
Coverage of the UK is very good as Three taps into the T-Mobile and Orange networks plus has its own 3G network. Check Three’s coverage in your area here.
SIM Only Contract’s top tip:
Want to save even more money? Check out Three Mobile’s 12-month contracts at either £12.90 or £15.90 p/mth. You get almost unlimited texts (3000) and 1GB of web data available on the cheaper tariff with unlimited data on the other. We also highly recommend the One Plan for a worry-free plan.
Our editor says:
One of the other major attractions of joining Three is the free Skype to Skype calls and MSN messenger for compatible 3 mobile phones. (Check if your phone is compatible here. In combination with a good data package you'll be getting superb value for money.
Planet Three is a simple site that connects to your account via 3G on your mobile and helps you keep track of everything – it’s free and allows you to check your allowance, view and pay your bills as well as manage add-ons. Smartphones users can set up a shortcut to it.
Three offers a very good online help system and make switching networks simple.
The Good and the Bad
I like: Three’s data packages are very good compared to other networks, especially considering their high upload and download speeds & that 4G will be included at no extra cost. Three has also been rated number 1 for overall quality by YouGov.
I don’t like: The lack of BlackBerry plans and the extra £5 you’ll have to pay out each month if you want to add BlackBerry services to your plan.
Updates this year
- 04/12/2013 - More unprecedented news from Three Mobile: They have now launched Feel at Home for the USA, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Macau.
Three have also confirmed they are rolling out 4G (at no extra cost) to existing customers with 4G phones and this process will accelerate in Jan 2014.
