Use of mobile internet SKY ROcket in 2008 - 10th January 2009

sidekickA study by Nielsen Net rating showed that Mobile Interet data usage rose by 25% in middle of 2008. It grew eight times more than Internet usage on PCs as that market matures. There are now over 7 million mobile Internet users in the UK and it is increasingly popular amongst the younger generation of 15-24 year olds.

Kent Ferguson, Nielsen senior analyst, said: "The fact that almost 7.5m Britons now access the web through their phone shows that mobile internet is fast becoming a viable way for advertisers and publishers to reach important demographic groups."

Mobile Internet is a great way to check your emails regulary as well as keep up with the latest news from your mobile. Some of the most popular sites visited are social networking stes like Facebook as well as news sites like the BBC and Sky Sports. What's also proved to be useful are sites like Kizoom where you can check Train Timetables. All these sites are more functional and Mobile Internet is focused around needs rather than enterntainment, according to Ferguson. With the rise of 3G usage and sites like You Tube now accessible on mobiles there is an increasing entertainment need too.
